YOSEMA Provides Relief to 103 Flood Victims in Potiskum

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) has distributed hygiene and shelter kits to 103 victims displaced by recent flooding in Potiskum Local Government Area.

Executive Secretary of YOSEMA, Dr. Mohammed Goje, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the agency has so far registered and validated 1,049 households, comprising 6,627 individuals, for flood support in the area.

According to him, the latest intervention is part of ongoing efforts to cushion the hardship of affected families and complements earlier support, which included cash-for-rent assistance and distribution of non-food items.

Goje commended the Action Against Hunger (ACF) for its prompt response and appreciated other humanitarian partners for their continued assistance to displaced households. He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items to improve their living conditions and restore dignity after the disaster.

Community leaders in Potiskum also expressed gratitude to the state government for its timely intervention.

Meanwhile, officials reported that a woman was found near the river following the flood. She is currently receiving medical treatment and has been reunited with her family.

The collaborative response, involving both the government and humanitarian organisations, reflects a sustained commitment to addressing the needs of flood victims and strengthening community resilience. YOSEMA assured that it will continue to support affected families across Yobe State.
