PSG Sign Ukrainian Defender Illia Zabarnyi for €63 million from Bournemouth on Five-Year Deal

Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Ukrainian international, Illia Zabarnyi from AFC Bournemouth in a deal reported to be worth around €63 million, with potential add-ons that could push the fee closer to €70 million.
The 22-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year contract, becoming the French champions’ first-ever Ukrainian player.
Zabarnyi, a product of Dynamo Kyiv’s academy, joined Bournemouth in January 2023 and quickly established himself as a key figure in the Premier League club’s defence.
Last season, he made 36 league appearances, playing a pivotal role in helping the Cherries achieve a ninth-place finish and their first positive goal difference in the top flight.
Known for his composure, aerial strength, and tactical intelligence, he is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders.
Speaking after the announcement, Zabarnyi expressed his delight at joining PSG, calling the club “the best in the world” and promising to give his all on the pitch. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi hailed the signing as a strategic addition to the squad, describing Zabarnyi as “a talented international player and a great professional” who fits perfectly into the club’s long-term project.
The move comes as part of PSG’s continued effort to strengthen their defensive options under manager Luis Enrique, with Zabarnyi expected to provide competition for established names like Marquinhos and Milan Škriniar.
His arrival follows a summer of significant defensive departures at Bournemouth, who have also seen Dean Huijsen move to Real Madrid and Milos Kerkez join Liverpool.
The Premier League side are reportedly targeting Lille’s Bafodé Diakité as a replacement.
On the international stage, Zabarnyi has already earned 49 caps for Ukraine, playing a key role in their Euro 2024 campaign. His transfer to Paris is expected to enhance his exposure on the European stage as PSG prepare for the new Ligue 1 season and upcoming UEFA competitions.
