LASU Staff Strike Called Off, to Resume Work Wednesday

Academic and non-academic staff of Lagos State University will resume duties on Wednesday, following the suspension of their strike that began on July 31.

The decision was reached on Monday during a congress of the Joint Action Committee, which includes ASUU, NASU, SSANU, and NAAT.

The industrial action had halted all academic and administrative activities, including the 2024/2025 second-semester examinations.

Staff members confirmed the resolution to resume, with JAC expected to issue a communiqué outlining the terms of suspension.

The strike centred on demands for payment of 23 months of arrears from the 25 and 35 per cent salary increments owed to staff. An earlier agreement with the Lagos State Government provided for payment of 12 months’ arrears between August and December 2025, but workers initially rejected it.

LASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, appealed to staff to consider the broader impact of prolonged action, noting previous welfare achievements by management.
