Regret Serving in Lagos’ — Corps Member Ushie Rita Accuses NYSC of Denying Certificate

Ushie Rita Uguamaye, popularly known as “Raye,” has accused the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of withholding her discharge certificate despite completing her one-year mandatory service in Lagos State.

In a social media post, Uguamaye who previously stirred controversy for describing Lagos as a “smelling state” and criticising the president Tinubu’s administration said her service year ended in frustration after NYSC officials informed her she would not receive her certificate.

According to her, the official explanation was that she failed to complete her monthly clearance for April on the scheduled date. She insists this was untrue, claiming she was physically present to be cleared but was repeatedly told by a Local Government Inspector (LGI) to “go to the back” until she was eventually refused service.

“She seized my file and told me to get out. This is a long story, and I don’t mind waking up at midnight to tell the story,” Uguamaye said, expressing “deep-rooted anger” over the incident.

The corps member noted that while moving to Lagos was not entirely a bad decision, serving there “isn’t all pleasure” and described the experience as “a waste of my time.”

Uguamaye has been no stranger to public attention. Earlier this year, she apologised after her comments about Lagos and the federal government sparked online backlash.

As of press time, NYSC management in Lagos had not issued any official response to her allegations.

Uguamaye concluded her statement by declaring that she was “closing this chapter” of her life.
