LASG Arrests Seven Over Attack on Parking Authority Staff

The Lagos State Government has arrested seven people in connection with recent attacks on officials of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) during enforcement operations in Ajah and Epe.
The suspects, said to be staff and security personnel of Better Mart, Badore Road, Off Addo Road, Ajah, and Ashley Mall in Epe, allegedly assaulted LASPA personnel on official duty. They are currently being detained at the Badore Police Station, Lekki, pending the conclusion of preliminary investigations before prosecution in court.
General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, condemned the incident, warning that the state would prosecute anyone who obstructs or assaults government officials carrying out their lawful duties.
She cited Chapter 17, Section 117 of the Criminal Code, which prescribes a three-year jail term or a ₦200,000 fine for anyone who obstructs a public officer in the discharge of their duties.
According to Adelabu, the attacked LASPA team was on a routine compliance check to ensure organisations and commercial centres obtain parking permits in line with state regulations. The confrontation reportedly left some officials injured.
She warned that any future attacks on LASPA personnel or other state officials would attract severe penalties, not only for the perpetrators but also for the landlords or tenants of premises where such incidents occur.
