Wizkid’s Feature on Gunna’s ‘The Last Wun’ Divides Fans, Ignites Global Buzz Ahead of Album Release

Nigerian superstar, Wizkid is once again at the center of global music discourse, following confirmation of his feature on American rapper Gunna’s upcoming album ‘The Last Wun’.

The collaboration, which also includes fellow Nigerian hitmakers Burna Boy and Asake, has ignited a whirlwind of fan reactions, with many hailing it as a historic fusion of Afrobeats and trap, while others express cautious optimicism ahead of the album’s release on August 8, 2025.

The excitement began building when teasers of The Last Wun surfaced online. Early rumors hinted at a track titled Africa Uhh featuring Wizkid and another entry—Searching Satisfaction—featuring Asake. These whispers were later bolstered by a leaked studio image that appeared to show Wizkid alongside Gunna, sending fans into a frenzy. Confirmation followed shortly after from music outlets including NotJustOk and MP3Bullet, validating the Nigerian stars’ appearances on the project.

A preview snippet from the album offered fans a first taste of Wizkid’s contribution, where he smoothly delivers the lines:
“Swing in the ocean / Baby girl come with the motion / Then make me lose my composure…”

The delivery, subtle yet rhythmically intoxicating, suggests a seamless blend of Wizkid’s signature Afro-fusion style with Gunna’s melodic trap.

The project marks a significant moment in the growing global presence of Afrobeats. While Burna Boy and Wizkid have both previously featured on international albums, the simultaneous appearance of three major Nigerian acts on a high-profile American rap album is a bold signal of the genre’s unstoppable global rise.

However, not all responses have been uniformly positive. While many fans are thrilled to see Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake break further ground internationally, some express concern about the musical direction.

Questions have emerged about how well the Afrobeats aesthetic will mesh with Gunna’s Atlanta-based trap influences. For others, the concern lies in whether Wizkid’s feature will stand out or feel underwhelming amid such high expectations.

Still, the buzz around The Last Wun is undeniable. Social media platforms have been flooded with commentary, memes, and predictions about the album’s reception. Many fans view this collaboration as an opportunity for Afrobeats to cement itself more deeply in global playlists and festival lineups.

With Gunna’s album set to drop on August 8, the spotlight remains firmly on this high-stakes crossover. Whether it exceeds expectations or provokes more debate, one thing is certain—Wizkid’s involvement in The Last Wun has already made waves across continents, and the full impact is yet to be felt.
