Osun Group Urges Governor Adeleke to Follow Due Process in Rumoured APC Defection

A prominent socio-political group in Osun State, the Osun Conscience Front (OCF), has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to respect party protocols and consult key stakeholders if he intends to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The call was made in a statement issued on Monday in Osogbo and signed by the group’s grand patron, Abiola Ogundokun, amid growing speculation about Adeleke’s potential political realignment.
The OCF emphasized that while the governor’s interest in joining the APC is not inherently objectionable, such a move must be made openly, respectfully, and through the right channels.
“If Governor Adeleke wishes to join the APC in Osun, he should approach it with humility and transparency,” the group stated. “The APC values discipline, structure, and internal democracy. Any attempt to defect through the backdoor would cast doubt on his motives.”
The group urged Adeleke to formally engage with core APC leaders in the state, including the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, former APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, and former National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
While maintaining that the APC remains open to welcoming new members, the OCF stressed that proper political etiquette must guide any defection, especially from a sitting governor.
“We do not feel threatened by anyone seeking to join our party,” the statement read. “But this is a political family. Anyone who wants to be part of this house must knock first and be welcomed.”
The group also reflected on the legacy of the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the governor’s older brother, who had strong ties to the progressive political movement in Osun. They acknowledged that a return by the Adeleke political family to the fold would not be out of place — if done through dialogue and mutual respect.
“Serubawon was one of us, and we continue to honour his memory,” the statement added. “But rejoining the progressive fold must be a respectful, structured process — not an imposition.”
The OCF further praised Gboyega Oyetola as a visionary and inclusive leader, saying he would not object to Adeleke’s entry into the APC, provided party values are upheld.
“Oyetola is not averse to Governor Adeleke or any other entrant,” the group noted. “But they must come through the front door — not the back.”
The development adds another layer of intrigue to the evolving political landscape in Osun State, where party loyalties and alignments have been fluid in recent election cycles.
