Katsina State Approves Promotion of 3,147 Teachers, Education Staff in Basic, Secondary Schools

The Katsina State Government has approved the promotion of no fewer than 3,147 teachers and other staff under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. The move is aimed at strengthening the education sector by boosting morale and recognizing the contributions of long-serving personnel who have remained dedicated despite various operational challenges. Announcing the development, the Executive Chairman of the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Lawal Buhari Daura, said the approval was the outcome of a thorough process involving the screening and verification of eligible candidates. He noted that many of the staff had been due for promotion since 2021 but had faced delays due to documentation issues and administrative constraints, which have now been resolved under the current administration. According to Daura, the promotion covers both teaching and non-teaching staff and is one of several steps being taken by Governor Dikko Umar Radda’s administration to reinvigorate the education system in the state. He described the mass promotion as a deliberate policy aimed at restoring confidence among educators and aligning their career progression with national standards. He further stated that the exercise demonstrates the government’s resolve to not only invest in infrastructure and learning materials but also in the welfare and professional development of those delivering education at the grassroots level. He assured the public that the process was transparent and merit-based, adding that more efforts would be made to clear any remaining backlog of overdue promotions. The decision has been welcomed by education stakeholders and teacher unions in the state. Many have described it as a morale booster that could significantly improve teaching quality and administrative effectiveness in schools. They also urged the government to sustain the momentum by investing in capacity-building programs, addressing staffing shortages, and improving learning environments. The Katsina State Government has in recent months taken several steps to reposition the education sector, including the rehabilitation of schools, recruitment of new teachers, and introduction of digital tools to enhance classroom engagement. The latest promotion, observers say, complements these efforts and signals a renewed commitment to addressing long-standing issues affecting education delivery in the state.
