Kano Government Probes Alleged Drug Baron’s Bail, Sets Up Panel

The Kano State Government has inaugurated a high-powered investigative committee to probe the controversial release on bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu, allegedly facilitated by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Ibrahim Ali Namadi.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf directed the formation of the eight-member panel in a bid to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure accountability.
The committee was formally inaugurated on Sunday at the Cabinet Office by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, on behalf of the governor.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the development and detailed the composition of the committee.
Barrister Aminu Hussaini, Special Adviser to the Governor on Justice and Constitutional Matters, will chair the investigative panel. Other members include legal experts, Barrister Hamza Haladu and Barrister Hamza Nuhu Dantani; Director-General of the Special Services Directorate, Major General Muhammad Sani (rtd); civil society activist Comrade Kabiru Dakata; Professor Mamun Mustapha of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil; Commissioner II of the Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmud Umar; and Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Mai Mota, Permanent Secretary of Administration and General Services in the SSG’s Office, who will serve as secretary.
The committee has been given a one-week deadline, starting from Sunday, to submit its findings and recommend appropriate actions to the state government.
While inaugurating the panel, the SSG expressed confidence in its members, describing them as individuals selected based on merit, competence, and a track record of diligence.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Chairman Barrister Hussaini thanked the governor for the swift response and the trust placed in them. He pledged that the team would carry out its assignment with integrity, objectivity, and professionalism.
The controversy surrounding the bail of Dan Wawu has sparked public concern in Kano, with calls for greater transparency and accountability in the state’s justice and governance systems. The findings of the committee are expected to clarify the role of public officials in the matter and guide the government’s next steps.
