Bago Mourns Victims of Shiroro Boat Tragedy, Calls for Urgent Safety Measures

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Shiroro Local Government Area following a tragic boat mishap that claimed several lives and destroyed goods en route to the Zumba community market.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor described the incident as “unfortunate, disheartening, and worrisome,” expressing deep sorrow over the recurring tragedies in the state’s riverine communities.

Governor Bago lamented that despite various interventions by relevant federal and state Ministries, Departments, and Agencies including the Niger State Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) boat mishaps continue to pose a threat to lives and livelihoods in affected areas.

He emphasized the urgent need for stricter enforcement of safety measures and proper regulation of water transportation to prevent further loss of lives. The governor also assured that the state government would continue to work closely with stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing riverine transportation in the state.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and offered sympathies to the bereaved families, urging residents to remain cautious while traveling on water.
