ASUU Warns of Dire Consequences over FG’s Refusal to Respect Agreements

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed deep frustration over the prolonged stalemate in its negotiations with the Federal Government.
According to Prof. Chris Piwuna, the ASUU President, the union is tired of empty promises and demands concrete action to address key issues affecting university lecturers and the education sector.
The union’s demands, rooted in the 2009 agreement with the government, include improved funding, better remuneration, and university autonomy.
Piwuna emphasized that these issues are crucial to addressing problems such as infrastructural decay, staff demoralization, and the declining quality of education.
The ASUU President also highlighted the importance of including non-teaching staff in salary reviews, citing the need for harmony and stability within the university system.
He warned that the government must be prepared to face the consequences of its inaction.
As the standoff continues, the future of university education in Nigeria hangs in the balance. The government’s response to ASUU’s demands will likely determine the trajectory of the impasse and its potential impact on the nation’s education system.
