Gov Eno Commends FG’s ₦2.1 Billion Cash Transfer to 28,000 Vulnerable Citizens

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has commended the Federal Government for the disbursement of ₦2.1 billion to 28,000 vulnerable individuals across the state under the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer (RHCCT) programme. The initiative, implemented between January and July 2025, is part of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) aimed at supporting poor and vulnerable households. Speaking during the official flag-off and verification exercise in Uyo, Governor Eno, represented by the Acting First Lady, described the intervention as timely and impactful. He said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to lifting people out of poverty through direct and practical means. He praised the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, for prioritising social protection and reaching those most affected by economic challenges. He noted that the cash transfer will help thousands of households across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State cope with the high cost of living. Governor Eno also applauded the transparent selection process of the beneficiaries, stressing that the programme was free from political interference and driven purely by verifiable need. He said such initiatives must remain people-focused and shielded from partisan influence. He reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to support and complement similar efforts with ongoing state initiatives, including youth empowerment programmes, agricultural support, and the payment of over ₦60 billion in outstanding gratuities to retirees. The state’s Focal Person on Social Investment Programmes, Dr. Godwin Akpan, said the programme, which previously covered only nine LGAs in 2019, had been expanded to all 31 LGAs by the end of 2023. He noted that the disbursement not only offers economic relief but also promotes financial inclusion for the most underserved populations. Several beneficiaries who received the transfers expressed appreciation to both the federal and state governments, describing the support as life-saving and crucial to meeting essential needs such as food, school fees, and healthcare. The Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer is one of the key poverty-alleviation strategies under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on reaching low-income households with direct financial assistance to ease economic hardship.
