Tinubu Announces Plan to Build New APC National Secretariat in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced plans to construct a new national secretariat for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move signaling a fresh phase of consolidation for the party’s infrastructure and identity.

Tinubu made the declaration on Thursday during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC, held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

While he did not disclose the cost or timeline for the project, he emphasized the importance of having a “befitting” headquarters for the party that reflects its national stature.

“We’ll look for an appropriate land to build a befitting secretariat,” the President stated, drawing nods of approval from party stakeholders present at the high-level gathering.

The announcement marks a symbolic shift for the APC, which currently operates from the Muhammadu Buhari House, located at 40 Blantyre Street, Wuse II, Abuja. The secretariat, formerly a commercial property, was acquired by the party during the tenure of its Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee. It was named after former President Muhammadu Buhari in June 2021 following the completion of a N2.5 billion payment and became operational later that year.

Despite the symbolic weight attached to Buhari House, Thursday’s emergency NEC meeting was notably moved from the current secretariat to the Presidential Villa a decision that some insiders say underscores the need for a more secure and modern party headquarters.

While details regarding location, cost, and design remain sketchy, Tinubu’s announcement signals intent to further institutionalize the APC as a dominant political force with long-term ambitions.

Political analysts say the move could also be aimed at unifying the party’s various power blocs, providing a fresh rallying point ahead of future elections and internal restructuring efforts.
