“You Did a Good Job” — President Tinubu Commends Vice President Shettima for Role in Buhari’s Repatriation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for his leadership and dedication in facilitating the repatriation of the remains of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. Tinubu, who gave Shettima the responsibility of leading a delegation to the United Kingdom following Buhari’s death on July 13, 2025, praised the vice president for handling the sensitive task with dignity and professionalism.
Speaking after the successful return of Buhari’s body to Nigeria, President Tinubu remarked, “You did a good job,” acknowledging Shettima’s efforts in ensuring that the former leader was brought home with the honour and respect befitting his status. The delegation, which also included Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, had been dispatched immediately after the announcement of Buhari’s passing in London.
Vice President Shettima coordinated arrangements with British authorities and accompanied the late president’s remains on the flight back to Nigeria, where a national week of mourning had been declared. On arrival, Buhari was received with full state honours and transported to his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, where he was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
The president’s statement not only served as a mark of gratitude to Shettima but also as a reaffirmation of the administration’s commitment to upholding the dignity of past leaders and preserving national decorum during moments of national grief. The repatriation, conducted swiftly and with minimal disruption, drew praise from many quarters as a reflection of responsible leadership and institutional coordination at the highest level.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 and was earlier a military ruler in the 1980s, passed away while undergoing medical treatment abroad. His death marked the end of a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political history, and his burial was attended by dignitaries, religious leaders, and citizens from across the country.
As tributes continue to pour in, the commendation of Vice President Shettima by President Tinubu has underscored the administration’s resolve to ensure that the legacies of former national figures are honoured with dignity, and their transitions handled with utmost respect.
