Suspected Murder Rocks Lokoja as Police Launch Manhunt for Alleged Killer

A tragic and deeply disturbing murder has shaken the city of Lokoja, Kogi State, following the brutal killing of a resident, identified as Ayo Aiyepekun, a well-known photojournalist.

The suspect, reportedly a neighbour of the victim, is currently on the run as security agencies intensify efforts to track him down.

According to preliminary investigations, Aiyepekun was murdered in cold blood in what appears to be a premeditated act. Eyewitnesses and community members revealed that the suspect, identified as Adebayo Pelumi, allegedly struck the victim with a heavy metal object during a heated altercation.

The suspect then reportedly attempted to conceal the crime by hiding the body in a freezer before fleeing the scene in the victim’s car.

The horrific nature of the incident has sent shockwaves through the Lokoja community, prompting urgent calls for justice.

Residents expressed disbelief and sorrow, describing Aiyepekun as a peaceful and respected figure in the area.

Security operatives, including local vigilantes, were said to have chased the suspect after the crime was discovered.

However, he managed to evade capture and remains at large. The Kogi State Police Command has since launched a full investigation into the incident and is appealing to the public for information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.

Spokesperson for the state police, SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident and assured the public that law enforcement agents are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrator to justice. He urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist the police.

“This is a tragic and unacceptable incident. We are committed to ensuring that justice is served and that the suspect is apprehended without delay,” he said.

The killing has renewed public concerns over safety and the importance of community vigilance. Advocacy groups and civil society organizations have also joined the call for justice, demanding that the state government intensify efforts to improve neighborhood security and ensure that similar tragedies do not recur.

As the manhunt continues, residents remain on edge, mourning the loss of a man whose life was cut short in a most gruesome fashion.
