Benue Assembly Reinstates 7 Suspended Lawmakers After Apology

The Benue State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension of seven lawmakers who were sanctioned earlier in February, paving the way for their return to legislative duties.

Their recall was announced during Tuesday’s plenary session in Makurdi after the Majority Leader, Mr. Saater Tiseer, presented a joint letter of apology from the suspended members.

Tiseer, while reading the letter, noted that the affected lawmakers had complied with the conditions set by the House by submitting a formal apology, expressing remorse, and pledging to uphold decorum in future proceedings.

Following the reading, the Majority Leader moved a motion for their reinstatement, which was unanimously adopted by the House.

The suspension, which had generated political tension in the state, was linked to alleged acts of misconduct and breach of legislative protocols. However, the lawmakers’ return is seen as a step towards restoring unity and stability within the Assembly.

The names of the reinstated members were not disclosed during the plenary, but sources within the Assembly hinted that they are expected to resume full legislative duties immediately.
