President Tinubu to Attend Eighth-Day Prayer for Late Awujale of Ijebuland

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Sunday depart Abuja for Ijebu-Ode to attend the eighth-day Fidau prayer ceremony in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON. The prayer session will be held at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, and is expected to draw a large gathering of dignitaries, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, traditional rulers, political leaders, and other prominent Nigerians. Oba Adetona passed away on Saturday, July 13, at the age of 91, and was buried the following day in Ijebu-Ode. His death marked the end of a remarkable era in traditional leadership, having ascended the throne in 1960 and reigning for over six decades. The eighth-day Fidau prayer, an important Islamic rite, is organized to pray for the soul of the deceased and offer support to the bereaved family and community. The event will also serve as a platform for national reflection on the life and legacy of the late monarch. Oba Adetona was known for his principled stance on governance, advocacy for justice, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of the Yoruba race. He was widely respected not only within his domain but also across Nigeria for modernizing traditional leadership and engaging actively in national discourse. President Tinubu had earlier paid tribute to the late monarch, describing him as a symbol of wisdom and integrity who embodied the finest qualities of leadership. His presence at the prayer ceremony underscores the national significance of Oba Adetona’s contributions to the country. Preparations have been concluded for the ceremony, with security agencies deployed to ensure a peaceful and well-coordinated event. The Ogun State Government has also assured residents and visitors of smooth logistics and necessary support services during the gathering.
