University of Calabar Confers Wike with Honorary Doctor of Law Degree

The University of Calabar has conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Law Degree on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
That was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of Nigeria and his exemplary leadership qualities.
The conferment ceremony, which took place at the university’s campus, was attended by dignitaries from across the country, including top government officials, traditional rulers, and members of the academic community.
In his citation, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi, described Wike as a “distinguished Nigerian who has made significant impact in the country’s political landscape”.
She highlighted his achievements as a former Governor of Rivers State and his current role as FCT Minister, where he has been instrumental in driving development and infrastructure growth in the nation’s capital.
Professor Obi noted that the honorary doctorate degree was in recognition of Minister Wike’s “selfless service, visionary leadership, and commitment to the development of Nigeria”.
She praised his efforts in promoting peace, stability, and economic growth in the country, and his dedication to the welfare of the Nigerian people.
In his acceptance speech, Minister Wike expressed gratitude to the University of Calabar for the honor, saying it was a “great privilege” to be recognized by one of Nigeria’s premier institutions of higher learning.
He dedicated the award to the people of Nigeria, saying it was a “testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and service to humanity”.
He also used the occasion to emphasize the importance of education in national development, urging Nigerian universities to continue to play a critical role in shaping the country’s future. He pledged to continue working tirelessly to promote the interests of Nigeria and its people, both as FCT Minister and as a leader in the country’s political landscape.
The conferment of the honorary doctorate on Minister Wike is the latest in a series of recognitions he has received for his outstanding service to Nigeria. It is a testament to his enduring legacy as a leader and a public servant, and a reflection of the high esteem in which he is held by the Nigerian people.
