Shagari’s Grandson Commends Tinubu for Honoring Buhari

The grandson of former President Shehu Shagari, Nura Muhammad Mahe, has praised President Bola Tinubu for showing respect to his predecessor, the late President Muhammadu Buhari, by attending his funeral and organizing a state burial.
In a statement, Mahe highlighted the contrast between Tinubu’s actions and how Buhari treated Shagari after his passing. Despite being in the country at the time of Shagari’s death, Buhari did not attend the funeral or grant a state burial. Instead, a government delegation led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation represented him.
Mahe expressed disappointment over the lack of respect shown to Shagari, who served Nigeria as its first democratically elected Executive President. He noted that Shagari’s death under Buhari’s leadership was a painful memory, especially given the perceived political animosity between the two leaders.
The statement concluded with a prayer for the forgiveness and eternal peace of all departed Nigerian leaders, acknowledging that their legacies are part of the country’s history.
