Reno Omokri Criticizes Peter Obi Over Absence at Buhari’s Burial

Former presidential aide and political commentator, Reno Omokri, has publicly criticized Labour Party chieftain, Peter Obi, for failing to attend the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday.

The burial ceremony, held in Daura, Katsina State on Tuesday, was attended by a high-level delegation led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. Several state governors and former public officials were also present at the solemn event. However, Obi’s absence was notably conspicuous.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday night, Omokri accused Obi of demonstrating disregard for the late northern leader and questioned his commitment to national unity.

“President Bola Tinubu was in Daura from beginning to end, showing his personal devotion to General Muhammadu Buhari and his commitment to the North. Arewa, remember who was not there!” Omokri posted.

He also referenced a previous remark made by Obi during General Yakubu Gowon’s 90th birthday on October 19, 2024, where Obi allegedly referred to the former Head of State as “an enemy” to be forgiven.

Omokri went further to recall Obi’s recent comments about the trial of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, describing them as controversial and insensitive to the northern region.

“Last week, he said Nnamdi Kanu’s trial ‘makes no sense.’ These are his exact words. This is the same Nnamdi Kanu who made vile claims about Arewa and alleged that General Buhari had died in 2017 and was replaced by a Sudanese clone named Jubril,” he added.
Concluding his criticism, Omokri suggested that Obi’s actions and statements point to divided loyalties and warned that in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, Nigeria needs a “truly Nigerian President,” not someone “whose true allegiance lies elsewhere.”

Peter Obi has not yet issued a response to the allegations.
