Former President Buhari Was A Great Mentor To All, Says Kyari

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has paid tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a great mentor and a true patriot whose death marks a significant loss for the nation. Speaking during the burial ceremony held in Daura, Katsina State, Kyari said Buhari was a disciplined, principled, and selfless leader who impacted generations through his service and example. According to the minister, Buhari’s legacy of integrity and dedication to the Nigerian people will endure for many years to come. “We have lost a true patriot,” Kyari said. “Since the announcement of his death, there has been an outpouring of grief and sympathy from all parts of the country and beyond. This shows how deeply he was respected and how greatly he will be missed.” Kyari noted that Buhari mentored many Nigerians, including those in public service, and helped shape their values through his consistent leadership. He described the former president as a father figure who inspired trust and modeled simplicity and strength in governance. The minister also praised Buhari’s contribution to agriculture, citing key reforms and policies introduced during his administration that laid the foundation for food security and rural development. He said the sector will continue to build on the groundwork laid during Buhari’s tenure. “As a leader, he believed in Nigeria’s capacity to grow its economy through agriculture. His vision remains with us, and we will keep working to bring it to full reality,” Kyari said. The burial ceremony drew dignitaries, traditional rulers, and thousands of mourners who came to pay their last respects. Daura, Buhari’s hometown, was overcome with grief as residents lined the streets in solemn silence. Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as civilian President from 2015 to 2023, died at the age of 82 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Tributes continue to pour in from across the nation, highlighting his lifetime of service and unwavering commitment to Nigeria.
