Vitriolic IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu Capitulates, Begs Court for Mercy, Forgiveness

In a dramatic and humiliating about-turn, IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has eaten his words and made a groveling apology to the Federal High Court, Justice Binta Nyako, and prosecutor Adegboyega Awomolo SAN for his outrageous behavior during his recent court appearance.

During his resumption of trial, his new counsel and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi, the IPOB leader delivered a lengthy and tearful address, seeking forgiveness and promising to behave well for the remainder of his trial.

The apology was a departure from Kanu’s usual confrontational and belligerent demeanor, and has left everyone wondering if the IPOB leader has at last been brought to his knee.

Agabi confirmed that Kanu had been angry, but insisted he should not have spoken out of turn, making an attack on the court, Justice Nyako, and even on his lawyers inappropriate.

“In letting off steam, he attacked the Federal High Court, he attacked Justice Binta Nyako, he attacked the prosecutor, and he attacked his own lawyers,” Agabi asserted, before pronouncing a glowing apology on Kanu’s behalf.

Kanu’s apology was a clear bid to appease the court and avoid further sanctions for his behavior. Awomolo SAN, the prosecutor, accepted the apology, stating he was moved by the plea and had forgiven Kanu for his tirade.

“I am not a persecutor, but a prosecutor,” Awomolo stated. We work to ensure the quick resolution of the charges,” Awimolo intoned.

The one question on everybody’s lips, though, is whether or not Kanu’s apology is real, or a cynical attempt to fool the court and go scot-free. Only time will tell whether the IPOB leader has genuinely reformed, or if this is just a short-term gambit to further his own ends.
