Fubara Sorrowful Over Death of Buhari

Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a London hospital.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Governor Fubara extended heartfelt condolences to President Bola Tinubu, the Buhari family, and the entire nation, describing Buhari’s passing as a significant loss to Nigeria.
“On behalf of my family and the people of Rivers State, I convey our deepest sympathies to President Tinubu, the Buhari family, and all Nigerians,” Fubara said. “President Buhari was a leader of discipline, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria.”
The former President, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a two-term civilian President from 2015 to 2023, was lauded by Fubara for his impactful career and enduring legacy. The governor acknowledged Buhari’s hallmark policies focused on anti-corruption, national security, and infrastructure development, which, he said, shaped the trajectory of the country in crucial ways.
“His years in office were marked by a strong focus on tackling corruption, improving security, and driving major infrastructure projects. These efforts will remain part of his lasting contribution to the nation,” the statement read.
Fubara noted that Buhari left behind a “legacy of service, sacrifice, and patriotism” that will continue to inspire future generations. He praised the former president’s sincerity and purpose in public service, highlighting his place in Nigeria’s political history as both a soldier and a statesman.
He also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the late president’s soul and asked for strength and comfort for his family and loved ones during this period of mourning.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari died on Sunday afternoon in London. His burial has been postponed to Tuesday, with arrangements currently underway to repatriate his remains to Nigeria.
