APC Clinches Chairmanship Seats in Ikorodu, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the chairmanship seats in Ikorodu Local Government Area and Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) following Saturday’s local government elections in Lagos State. In Ikorodu LGA, APC candidate Prince Adedayo Ladega secured 38,946 votes to defeat Princess Saidat Odofin of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 2,592 votes. Abdulazeez Awesu of the Labour Party (LP) got 2,753 votes, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate recorded 68 votes. The result was declared by the Returning Officer, Alhaji Aregbesola Yekinni, at about 12:35 a.m. on Sunday. In Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, APC candidate Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun won with 15,015 votes. His closest rival, PDP’s Liadi Olawale, polled 341 votes. The result was announced by Returning Officer Priscilla Oluwakanyinsola Arimoro at approximately 10:32 p.m. on Saturday. Election observers and local stakeholders described the process as peaceful and well-coordinated, with timely deployment of materials and effective participation from electoral officials. There were no reports of major incidents across polling units in the two councils. Speaking after the announcements, outgoing Ikorodu chairman Wasiu Adesina commended residents for their support and said the victory was a clear endorsement of APC’s leadership at the grassroots. He expressed confidence in Ladega’s capacity to build on his administration’s achievements. In his acceptance speech, Aroyewun thanked voters for the overwhelming support, promising to prioritize development, youth empowerment, and responsive governance. The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) was praised by party agents and voters for the orderly conduct of the elections. However, voter turnout was noticeably low in some areas, a concern that civic groups say needs to be addressed through sustained voter education. The APC’s victories in both councils are seen as a reinforcement of the party’s dominance in Lagos State and a strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections. Residents now look forward to the swearing-in of the new chairmen and the implementation of development plans across both councils.
