10 Lagos Hospitals Redefining Surgery, Curbing Medical Tourism

Lagos is fast emerging as a top destination for advanced medical care in West Africa, challenging the long-standing trend of outbound medical tourism.

As the cost of healthcare soars abroad and long wait times plague countries like the UK and the US, more Nigerians in the diaspora and even some foreign nationals are choosing Lagos for quality, specialist procedures.

A growing number of state-of-the-art private hospitals in the city are now capable of handling complex surgeries, including cardiac and neurosurgical operations, minimally invasive gynecological procedures, and advanced orthopedic treatments services that were once accessible only outside Nigeria.

To identify the top 10 hospitals at the forefront of this shift, Nairametrics consulted Dr. Oladoyin Odubanjo, FISC, a public health expert and Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Academy of Science. Dr. Odubanjo praised the listed institutions for not only raising the standard of care but also helping to reverse the country’s medical brain drain and reduce dependence on foreign hospitals.
