Suspension Didn’t Stop Me from Serving My Constituents, Explains Natasha

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has declared that her suspension from the Senate did not deter her from fulfilling her duties to her constituents.

Speaking on Sunday during the official flag-off of two smart market projects in Okene and Okehi Local Government Areas of Kogi State, the senator stated that her commitment to the people remained firm despite her absence from plenary sessions.

“Even during the wrongful suspension, we kept working. Leadership doesn’t pause because of setbacks. My people gave me their mandate to serve, and that’s exactly what I’ve been doing and will continue to do,” she said.

The smart market projects include 40 lock-up shops and 40 open stalls each, complete with solar-powered electricity, boreholes, modern toilets, power sockets, truck bays, and solar streetlights. According to her, the markets are expected to be completed by November 2025 to mark her second year in office.

“This is not just about erecting buildings; it’s about improving the lives of our market women and traders. We want our people to do business in comfort and safety,” she added.

Natasha also emphasized that her service is non-discriminatory and intended for the entire district regardless of political or religious affiliation. “I represent all the good people of Kogi Central. My performance must impact everyone, not just those who voted for me or belong to my party,” she said.

The senator was suspended in March 2025 over allegations of unruly behavior, but the Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the suspension on July 4, declaring it illegal and ordering her immediate reinstatement.

She has since returned to legislative duties and assured constituents that she remains focused on delivering impactful projects across the district.
