FG Partners Amazon to Offer Free Digital Skills to Students, Educators Nationwide

Federal Ministry of Education has unveiled a partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch a nationwide free digital skills training programme for students and educators.
The announcement, made via the Ministry’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, described the initiative as a “big move for Nigeria’s education” and a key component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The initiative is designed to equip students, lecturers, and administrators with cutting-edge skills in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and other emerging technologies. It will be rolled out across federal, state, and private tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
According to the Ministry, the best part of the programme is that certification will be 100% free, with costs split between the Federal Ministry of Education and Amazon Web Services. This unprecedented partnership underscores the federal government’s intention to democratize access to digital knowledge and expand educational opportunities to all corners of the country.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the programme will be rolled out to all federal, state, and private tertiary institutions. The best part? Certification is 100% free, split between the Ministry and AWS,” the Ministry’s post read.
The collaboration reflects Nigeria’s urgent need to close the digital skills gap among its youth and educators. By targeting tertiary institutions, the government hopes to build a workforce that is not only digitally literate but globally competitive.
This initiative is in line with the goals of the #DigitalNigeria campaign and supports broader efforts to promote #Skills4All, especially in light of increasing global demand for tech-enabled professionals.
The partnership with AWS also aligns with global educational trends where governments are increasingly leveraging private sector expertise to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. AWS, a global leader in cloud services and computing infrastructure, brings both credibility and a wealth of experience to the project.
Industry watchers have hailed the development as a “transformative leap” in Nigeria’s education policy and digital infrastructure investment.
Digital literacy is fast becoming a prerequisite for economic participation. By embedding such training into formal tertiary education, the Federal Ministry of Education is making a deliberate effort to ensure that Nigerian graduates are better prepared for digital careers both at home and abroad.
The certifications obtained through this programme could serve as a significant value-add for students seeking employment in Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem or international digital job markets.
This free digital skills training partnership with AWS represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s educational transformation. It reflects a strong government commitment to innovation, youth empowerment, and inclusive growth key pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda. As implementation begins across institutions, the real test will be in ensuring effective delivery, access equity, and measurable impact on Nigeria’s human capital development.
