Amaechi Dumps APC, Says Nigeria Completely Destroyed
Former Minister of Transportation and ex-governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has announced his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that Nigeria has been “completely destroyed” and is in urgent need of a radical overhaul.
Amaechi made the revelation during a media interaction in Abuja on Wednesday, shortly after the unveiling of the interim executive committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
His appearance at the event sparked speculation about his next political move, which he seemed to confirm with blistering criticism of the current government and electoral system.
The former APC chieftain did not mince words as he accused his former party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of plotting to manipulate the upcoming elections.
According to him, the level of hardship in the country has reached an unbearable peak, with many Nigerians unable to afford food due to hyperinflation and widespread poverty.
“The country is completely destroyed,” Amaechi lamented. “People can’t afford to eat. There is no money. Inflation is out of control. What we need is not just a change of government, but a complete change of Nigeria itself.”
He disclosed that he formally resigned from the APC on Tuesday night, expressing surprise that he was not expelled earlier, given his open criticisms. “I told them not to invite me to their meetings anymore. I warned them, but they didn’t act. I resigned voluntarily.”
When asked why he is now working with the ADC instead of supporting the government he once served, Amaechi responded: “This is beyond politics. If it was just about changing one government for another, it would be meaningless. We need to change Nigeria its values, systems, and direction.”
Amaechi’s departure marks a significant blow to the APC, where he was once a key figure, especially during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
His defection and public condemnation of the party signal a broader political realignment that may reshape the 2027 political landscape.
As of the time of filing this report, the APC has not issued an official response to Amaechi’s resignation or the damning allegations he leveled against the party and INEC.
