Atiku Would’ve Been a Great President,Admits Daniel Bwala
Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the 2023 Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign and now a Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has said that Atiku would have been a great president if elected.
Bwala made the statement during a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, where he reflected on his past support for the former vice president and his current role in the APC-led administration.
Speaking on Atiku’s leadership credentials, Bwala said, “Atiku would have made a great president. He has the capacity, the experience, and the national reach to lead Nigeria effectively.”
However, he was quick to note that greatness alone does not guarantee destiny or leadership timing, suggesting that Atiku’s inability to emerge president may be due to divine design.
Bwala also questioned whether Atiku would have performed better than President Bola Tinubu, stating that leadership outcomes are ultimately judged by results.
“Tinubu is president today. He has his own vision, and the results of his leadership will speak for themselves,” he added.
The comment has drawn reactions from political observers and opposition figures, many of whom accused Bwala of political inconsistency. Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, described Bwala’s remarks as insincere and an attempt to remain relevant within the ruling party.
In a statement, Ibe said, “Daniel Bwala is not in a position to determine the worth of Atiku Abubakar. His comments reflect a pattern of political opportunism and self-preservation. Atiku does not need validation from those who lack consistency in their convictions.”
He further stated that Atiku remains a leading figure in the country’s political space and continues to enjoy wide support across the country.
Bwala, who defected to the APC after the 2023 elections, has in recent months become a vocal defender of the Tinubu administration. He has also criticized other opposition figures, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, whom he described as an “opportunistic politician” facing an identity crisis.
His frequent media appearances and criticisms of his former allies have fueled speculation that he is seeking a stronger foothold within the APC’s inner circles ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development underscores ongoing political realignments and tensions among key actors in Nigeria’s political landscape as the next general election approaches.
