David Mark Is Legendary Leader, not New, Says Shehu Sani on Appointment as ADA Chairman

Former Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the appointment of David Mark as the new chairman of a political coalition, recalling a long-standing history between them and casting doubt on the portrayal of Mark as a “new” leader.
In a post shared on his official social media handle, Sani noted that while both men served as colleagues in the 8th Senate, David Mark’s public service dates much further back.
He reminisced that 42 years ago, Mark was already a prominent figure, serving as Governor of Niger State, while Sani himself was just a student at Science Secondary School in the same state.
“We used to line up in our school uniform to receive him while he fondly called us ‘leaders of tomorrow,’” Sani wrote, describing the retired general as a disciplinarian and a good man, but stressing that “he is not ‘new.’”
The post, which has since drawn thousands of views and engagements, subtly highlights the generational gap and questions the idea of recycling long-serving figures in political leadership roles.
David Mark, a retired Brigadier General and former Senate President, remains a prominent figure in Nigerian politics. His new role as coalition chairman signals yet another phase in his extensive political journey.
