Meranda Sues for Unity, Collective Purpose as LG Election Draws Near

As Lagos State intensifies preparations for the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for July 12, 2025, Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mojisola Meranda, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to embrace unity and collective purpose.

In a statement released by her media office on Tuesday, Hon. Meranda made the appeal during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos House, Marina.

The gathering brought together party stalwarts, leaders, and APC candidates vying for chairmanship and councillorship positions across the 57 local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs) of the state.

Describing the meeting as a strong testament to the APC’s commitment to democratic ideals, Meranda stated that the gathering went beyond routine political formalities.

“It was more than just a ceremonial gathering,” she said. “It was a powerful reaffirmation of our collective resolve to deepen democratic values, promote inclusive leadership, and uphold transparency in governance at all levels.”

As candidates from various political parties continue to submit credentials and undergo document validation at the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) ahead of the polls, Meranda emphasized the importance of internal cohesion within the APC.

She urged party members and supporters across the state to rally behind the APC candidates, emphasizing that the leadership remains firmly committed to a credible and transparent electoral process.

“Last week, I had the honour of attending the official presentation of the APC’s local government chairmanship and councillorship flag bearers in Lagos,” Meranda said. “The event, graciously hosted by Governor Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed the strength and unity of our party.”

Reiterating the APC’s dedication to its guiding principles and the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Deputy Speaker assured Lagosians of the party’s unwavering support for grassroots democracy and participatory governance.

“As we move closer to the elections, our message is unwavering: we support a free, fair, and credible process that reflects the will of the people and advances the Renewed Hope Agenda,” she stated.

Meranda concluded by affirming the party’s commitment to building a Lagos and Nigeria that delivers development, accountability, and inclusive governance for all.
