I Will Do Tinubu’s Bidding Concerning 2027, Says Barau Jibrin
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has pledged total loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that he will do whatever the President wants in the political decisions leading to the polls. Jibrin made the statement while addressing journalists in Abuja following calls from some political groups urging him to run as Tinubu’s vice-presidential candidate in the next election.
The calls, particularly from the Northern Nigeria Progressive Youth Assembly, have intensified in recent weeks. Supporters argue that Barau, being a prominent northern figure and a trusted ally of the President, would strengthen the APC’s chances of electoral victory in 2027.
However, the Deputy Senate President dismissed the idea as untimely and unnecessary, urging supporters and political actors to prioritize governance over politics.
“This is not the time for politicking. This is the time for governance. The people of Nigeria want performance, and the President is doing just that. We should all support him to deliver on his mandate. As for 2027, whatever the President wants is what I will do 100 percent,” Jibrin said.
He stressed that his loyalty to President Tinubu is unwavering and that any decision about future political roles will be guided solely by the President’s direction. He emphasized the importance of focusing on national development rather than engaging in early campaign speculation.
Jibrin also spoke on the ongoing constitutional amendment efforts by the National Assembly, revealing that 59 bills and 31 proposals have been received for review.
He said public hearings across the six geopolitical zones would soon commence as part of the broader national consultation process.
The Deputy Senate President’s statement comes amid growing internal discussions within the APC about possible ticket adjustments ahead of 2027.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has not responded to the recent endorsements of Barau, and the Presidency has remained silent on any potential changes to the current leadership lineup.
Barau Jibrin, a key northern figure in the ruling party, has continued to play a significant role in national legislative affairs and in mobilizing support for President Tinubu’s administration. His public declaration of loyalty is seen by observers as an attempt to reinforce unity within the party and affirm his commitment to Tinubu’s leadership.
