“Metuh Confirms: Reno Omokri Hired Segun Showunmi as Atiku’s Spokesperson

Olisa Metuh, a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has corroborated a claim made by Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, that he was responsible for hiring Segun Showunmi as a spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 presidential campaign.

According to Metuh, Omokri played a key role in bringing Showunmi on board as a member of Atiku’s campaign team, a move that was seen as a strategic attempt to bolster the former Vice President’s chances of winning the election.

Metuh’s confirmation has laid to rest speculation over who was responsible for hiring Showunmi, who was a vocal critic of Atiku’s presidential ambitions before his appointment as spokesperson. The development has also shed light on the behind-the-scenes machinations that characterized the 2019 presidential campaign.

Omokri had earlier claimed that he was the one who hired Showunmi, but his assertion was met with scepticism by some quarters. However, with Metuh’s confirmation, it is now clear that Omokri played a significant role in Showunmi’s appointment.

The hiring of Showunmi as Atiku’s spokesperson was seen as a surprise move at the time, given his previous criticism of the former vice president. However, Showunmi’s appointment was widely hailed as a masterstroke, as he brought a level of passion and energy to the campaign that helped to galvanize support for Atiku.

The confirmation of Omokri’s role in hiring Showunmi has significant implications for the politics of the PDP and is likely to fuel further speculation about the party’s internal dynamics. It also raises questions about the level of influence that Omokri wielded within the party during the 2019 presidential campaign.
