Iran Arrests Fadavi, Deputy Commander of Revolutionary Guards as Alleged Israeli Spy

Ali Fadavi, the deputy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has been apprehended on allegations of espionage for Israel.

Last week, subsequent to departing from the residence of Hossein Salami, the former leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Fadavi was detained by IRGC intelligence operatives and transported to an undisclosed location.

On that day, he visited the home of his erstwhile commander, accompanied by Abdullah Haji Sadeghi (the Supreme Leader’s envoy within the IRGC), to pay respects to Salami’s family, following Salami’s assassination by Israel two days prior.

Fadavi, who was conferred the rank of admiral by Khamenei, has served as the deputy commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Guards since 2019. Nevertheless, despite expectations that he would succeed Salami posthumously, as dictated by the hierarchy, this did not transpire; instead, he encountered a vastly different destiny.

The veracity of Fadavi’s espionage charge remains uncertain, raising questions about whether he was made a scapegoat to shield actual spies within the IRGC.

Fadavi has not been seen publicly in the past week and was notably absent from the video released today from the IRGC’s “war command room.”
