Federal Intervention Sought for Dilapidated Ado-Ijan Road
The management of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Ekiti State, has made a passionate appeal to the federal government to intervene in the deplorable condition of the Ado-Ijan Ekiti Road, which has become a major concern for motorists and residents in the area.
The university’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Olasupo Ijabadeniyi, described the condition of the road as “pathetic and worrisome,” emphasizing the need for immediate reconstruction to prevent further deterioration.
According to Professor Ijabadeniyi, the founder of the university, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, had spent a significant amount of money on the maintenance of the road between 2009 and 2019. However, due to other pressing projects across the state, he was unable to continue with the maintenance. The university had expected that the establishment of the Ekiti State International Cargo Airport would prompt the government to rehabilitate and fix the road, but this has not been the case.
The Ado-Ijan Ekiti Road, which is a critical link between Ado Ekiti and other parts of the state, has been in a state of disrepair for several years, causing hardship and inconvenience to motorists and residents.
The university’s appeal to the federal government is aimed at drawing attention to the urgent need for intervention to restore the road to a motorable condition.
Professor Ijabadeniyi noted that Aare Afe Babalola has invested billions of Naira in the development of the Ekiti State International Cargo Airport, with the expectation that it would facilitate economic growth and development in the state.
However, the poor condition of the Ado-Ijan Ekiti Road is undermining the potential benefits of the airport, and the university is urging the federal government to take immediate action to address the situation.
The appeal by ABUAD has sparked hopes that the federal government will intervene to reconstruct the Ado-Ijan Ekiti Road, which is critical to the economic and social development of Ekiti State.
The university’s efforts to draw attention to the plight of the road are seen as a timely reminder of the need for urgent action to address the country’s infrastructure challenges.
