Operationalise ECOWAS Standby Force, Tinubu Charges Community
President Bola Tinubu has emphasized the need for West African leaders to operationalize the ECOWAS Standby Force to combat terrorism in the sub-region.
Speaking at the 67th ECOWAS Heads Of State And Government Summit in Abuja, Tinubu stressed that the regional force is crucial for maintaining peace and stability in the area. As the current chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the region’s peace, integration, and economic prosperity.
The President noted that no single nation can tackle the challenges of terrorism and external security threats alone, making it essential to translate the ECOWAS Standby Force from concept to reality.
He urged his colleagues to take decisive action to make the force a potent tool in the fight against terrorism, serving as a regional counter-terrorism force.
The ECOWAS Standby Force is a regional security initiative aimed at promoting peace and stability in West Africa. Its operationalization is seen as a critical step in addressing the growing security challenges in the sub-region, including terrorism, piracy, and armed robbery.
With Tinubu’s call to action, West African leaders are expected to work together to make the force a reality, enhancing the region’s security and promoting economic development.
