Mrs Soludo Commends Anambra School for Winning UK-Nigeria Debate Championship
The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has commended students of Michael Tansi Memorial Secondary School, Aguleri, for winning the National Quiz and Debate Championship, which served as the qualifier for the UK-Nigeria Debate Exchange Programme.
Speaking during a reception held in honour of the students, Mrs Soludo described their victory as a proud moment for Anambra State and a testament to the quality of education in the state. The final stage of the championship took place in Enugu on May 25, 2024, featuring top schools from across Nigeria. The Anambra team emerged champions after a series of intellectually engaging sessions.
Mrs Soludo praised the students for their brilliance, confidence, and discipline, highlighting that their performance reflects the academic strength Anambra is known for. She assured them of continued support and mentorship while reaffirming the government’s commitment to building an education system that prepares students for national and global recognition.
She also noted that success was a result of the Soludo administration’s educational reforms, including the recruitment of over 5,000 teachers, distribution of free textbooks, and introduction of digital learning tools in public schools.
The students, by virtue of their victory, will represent Nigeria at the UK-Nigeria Debate Exchange, where they are expected to engage with counterparts from the United Kingdom in cultural and intellectual dialogues. Parents, teachers, and school authorities at the event commended the students and expressed gratitude to the state government for its unwavering support for education.
The victory of Michael Tansi Memorial Secondary School has been widely celebrated as another clear indication of Anambra’s growing reputation for academic excellence.
