Army Vows to Bring Perpetrators of Benue Killings to Justice
The Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has assured that the Nigerian Army will hunt down and bring to justice all those behind the recent killings and attacks in Benue and Plateau states, as well as other parts of the country.
This vow was made during a media chat organised by the Nigerian Army Department of Civil-Military Affairs in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Saturday.
According to Mr Oluyede, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division Nigerian Army, Obinna Onubogu, a major general, the military is fully committed to ending the spate of violence and will not allow Nigeria’s territorial integrity or internal security to be compromised by criminal elements.
“We shall go after them, and by God’s grace, we will get them,” Mr Oluyede said, emphasizing the army’s determination to apprehend the perpetrators of the killings. He added that the Nigerian Army has remained engaged in Plateau, Benue, Kwara, and other states experiencing insecurity, and will continue to work tirelessly to restore peace and stability in these areas.
The event, themed “Media Collaboration: Panacea for Enhanced National Security and Development,” was aimed at fostering collaboration between the media and the military to promote national security and development. Mr Oluyede’s assurance is a welcome development, as it comes at a time when many Nigerians are calling for greater action to be taken to address the ongoing violence and insecurity in the country.
The Nigerian Army has been working to combat insecurity in various parts of the country, and Mr Oluyede’s vow to bring the perpetrators of the Benue killings to justice is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
The army’s commitment to ending the violence and restoring peace and stability in the affected areas is a reassuring message to the Nigerian people, and it is hoped that this commitment will be followed by concrete actions to address the root causes of the insecurity.
