Messi Now Fit to Face Porto, Says Mascherano

Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi has been confirmed fit to play in the club’s upcoming match against FC Porto, assistant coach Javier Mascherano said on Thursday, ending days of speculation over the Argentine star’s fitness.

Messi had been the subject of concern after missing several training sessions earlier in the week.

The 37-year-old forward, who joined the MLS club in 2023, was reported to have been managing light muscle fatigue. However, in a media briefing ahead of the Intercontinental Champions Cup fixture, Mascherano assured reporters that Messi is ready to return to full action.

“Leo is back and ready,” Mascherano said. “He trained at full intensity and showed no sign of discomfort. He’s eager to play, and we’re happy to have him available for this important match.”

Messi’s presence is expected to boost Inter Miami’s chances against Porto, who are known for their disciplined defending and compact midfield.

Inter Miami are aiming to secure a place in the knockout round of the tournament, and the return of their captain could be a decisive factor.

Since joining the club, Messi has scored nine goals and provided six assists across all competitions this season.

His leadership on and off the pitch has been widely credited with transforming the club’s profile both in the MLS and internationally.

The announcement of his availability has sparked renewed excitement among fans, with ticket sales reportedly spiking within hours of Mascherano’s statement. Inter Miami host FC Porto this weekend at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
