Wike Inspects Access Roads with Schoolchildren, Amidst Amaechi’s ‘Children’ Remark

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was joined by a group of schoolchildren while inspecting the access roads in the Gishiri area of Katampe District, Abuja.

This comes a day after former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, stated that he didn’t want to “join issues with children” in reference to Wike.

The FCT Minister, who was visibly delighted by the company of the young students, used the opportunity to educate them on the importance of infrastructure development and the role of the FCT Administration in maintaining and improving the city’s roads.

As they walked through the access roads, Wike pointed out areas that required attention and explained the plans of the FCT Administration to upgrade the infrastructure in the district.

The schoolchildren, who were from a nearby school, listened intently and asked questions, showing keen interest in the affairs of their city.

The inspection tour was part of Wike’s ongoing efforts to assess the condition of roads and infrastructure in the FCT, with a view to identifying areas that require urgent attention.

The Minister has been consistent in his commitment to improving the living conditions of residents in the city, and this latest move is seen as a demonstration of his dedication to engaging with the community, including the younger generation.

The presence of schoolchildren during the inspection tour has been interpreted by some as a subtle response to Amaechi’s comment, which was seen as dismissive and condescending.

However, Wike’s aides have denied that the move was intended to be a direct retort, stating that the Minister has always been committed to engaging with the community and promoting the involvement of young people in the development of the city.

Regardless of the motivations behind the move, the image of Wike walking alongside schoolchildren, discussing infrastructure development and listening to their questions, has been widely seen as a positive and uplifting moment, one that highlights the importance of community engagement and the need for leaders to connect with the people they serve.
