Only Tinubu Can Lead Us to Nigeria of Our Dreams, Declares Wike at OAU
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu possesses the leadership character and determination needed to steer Nigeria toward the nation of its dreams.
Wike made the statement while delivering a lecture titled “The Nigeria of Our Dreams” at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, on Wednesday, June 5, 2025.
In his address, the former Rivers State governor stated that Nigeria’s most enduring challenge has not been the absence of ideas or resources, but rather a consistent lack of quality leadership. Citing the late novelist Chinua Achebe’s famous assertion that “the trouble with Nigeria is simply and squarely a failure of leadership,”
Wike said the current administration represents a break from that pattern.
“There is no doubt in my mind that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the kind of leader this country needs at this critical juncture. He is bold, focused, and resilient. Only a leader with Tinubu’s character can lead us to the Nigeria of our dreams,” Wike said.
The FCT Minister praised Tinubu’s courage in making difficult policy decisions and argued that the President has shown a unique capacity to confront Nigeria’s long-standing governance issues head-on.
According to him, such leadership is essential to break the cycle of stagnation and to move Nigeria forward.
Wike’s remarks come at a time of growing debate over Nigeria’s developmental trajectory and the effectiveness of recent reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration.
His comments also carry significant political weight given his stature as a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and his history as a presidential aspirant.
Observers say Wike’s endorsement of Tinubu may signal a deeper realignment in Nigerian politics, as influential figures across party lines reassess alliances in light of ongoing national reforms.
“The Nigeria of our dreams is not an illusion. It is achievable, but it requires leadership that is visionary, courageous, and compassionate. President Tinubu represents all of that and more,” Wike concluded.
The lecture was attended by students, academics, political leaders, and members of the public, many of whom lauded the Minister’s candor and the broader call for collective national commitment to development.
