NNPC and Bovas Filling Station pay 70,000minimum wage

A startling revelation has emerged from the AP Filling Station in Maitama, opposite Transcorp Hilton, where fuel attendants staged a protest on Sunday over their shockingly low monthly salary of a mere N10,000.

This unsettling news was initially disseminated by a Digital Communications Strategist on X, who recounted his engagement with the attendants while refueling and was left astounded by their paltry remuneration.

According to the strategist, upon inquiring about the salary, one attendant confirmed that she indeed earns only N10,000 per month, contrary to the N100,000 he had optimistically anticipated. Another staff member corroborated this information, revealing that the workers had previously petitioned management for a pay increase, only to be met with refusal.

The strategist voiced concern over the silence of labor unions concerning this issue and implored activists to address such grassroots injustices.

“I asked if she meant N100,000, but she insisted it was N10,000,” he wrote, underscoring the stark reality of the attendants’ meager wages.

In an effort to substantiate these claims, our team from unfiltered Reporting conducted an independent inquiry, visiting an NNPC station in Wuse and a nearby Bovas filling station. At the NNPC station, an attendant disclosed that he earns between N3,000 to N4,000 per day, while a staff member at Bovas revealed that attendants at their station receive a monthly salary of N70,000, working from Monday to Sunday depending on their shift.

The disparity in wages between different stations raises pertinent questions about fairness and equity within the industry.

While some attendants earn a relatively reasonable income, others are grappling with salaries as low as N10,000 per month. This incident has ignited calls for labor unions and activists to take cognizance of these grassroots injustices and advocate for improved working conditions and equitable wages for fuel attendants nationwide.
