22 Year Old Iniobong Clinches Silver in Power Lifting at National Sports Festival

George Iniobong, 22 of Team Benue has won a silver medal in the -60kg Men’s Judo category at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
This victory has brought the total medals won by Team Benue to two silver and seven bronze medals in the tournament.
Iniobong’s exceptional performance in the judo event was evident as he battled his way to the final, only to be overpowered by the host team’s player in the last minutes of the encounter.
Despite falling short of the gold medal, Iniobong’s achievement has sent a wave of excitement among the Benue State contingent and sports enthusiasts across the country.
In a post-match interview, Iniobong expressed his gratitude to the Benue State Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for providing the opportunity for him and other athletes from the state to participate in the Gateway Games.
“I want to thank the Governor, the Commissioner for Sports, my coaches, and my family for their support, which has brought me this far,” he said.
Although Iniobong regretted not winning the gold medal as expected, he remained optimistic about his future prospects.
“I am further encouraged with this opportunity, and I want to promise to give my all for the state when another opportunity presents itself,” he added.
The 22nd National Sports Festival, a biennial multi-sport event organized by the Federal Government, has brought together athletes from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to compete in various sports.
The tournament aims to promote national unity, sportsmanship, and excellence across Nigeria.
Team Benue’s medal tally now stands at two silver and seven bronze medals, with more events still to come.
The state’s athletes have been competing in various disciplines, including athletics, wrestling, and table tennis, among others.
