Fatalities Mount in Gaza as Overnight Bombings Persist

Fatalities mount as Mahmud Bassal, civil defence spokesman, confirms a devastating series of pre-dawn aerial attacks in Gaza’s northern and central regions.

The assault, which occurred on Sunday, has left six individuals deceased and numerous others injured.

A residential area in Jabalia bore the brunt of the attack, with five lives lost in the bombing. Meanwhile, a separate incident involving a drone strike on makeshift shelters housing displaced persons west of Nuseirat resulted in one additional fatality.

The Israeli military’s intensified campaign in Gaza, aimed at dismantling Hamas, has led to a significant escalation in hostilities.

According to military reports, over 100 targets were struck across the territory in a 24-hour period preceding Saturday afternoon.

Gaza’s health ministry has reported a staggering toll of 3,747 fatalities since the collapse of the ceasefire on March 18, bringing the total number of deaths in the conflict to 53,901, with civilians accounting for the majority of victims.

The initial outbreak of violence was sparked by Hamas’s attack on Israel in October 2023, which claimed the lives of 1,218 people, primarily civilians, as per official figures compiled by AFP.
