Mbah Appoints Alhaji Sambo Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties

In a move seen as a step toward strengthening inclusion and cultural integration in Enugu State, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has appointed Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf Sambo as the Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties.

Alhaji Sambo, the Sarkin Hausawa (traditional leader of the Hausa community) of Enugu, is a respected figure known for his leadership and commitment to inter-ethnic peace and community development.

His appointment is being widely lauded as a symbol of the state government’s recognition of the diverse ethnic and cultural makeup of Enugu.

Born and raised in Enugu, Alhaji Sambo is known not only for his leadership within the northern community in the state but also for his fluency in the Igbo language and his strong ties across ethnic lines.

He has played a key role in promoting peaceful coexistence and understanding between communities, especially in times of social tension.

The new appointee currently serves as the National Vice Chairman I of the Inter-Tribal Leaders Association of Nigeria, a body focused on fostering national unity through dialogue and traditional leadership.

He is also a member of the Enugu State Security and Peace Committee, where he has contributed significantly to peacebuilding and conflict resolution initiatives.

Governor Mbah’s appointment of Alhaji Sambo reflects a broader strategy of inclusive governance, aimed at ensuring that all segments of society are represented in the administration. In his statement, the governor noted that the appointment is in line with his vision of a united, peaceful, and forward-looking Enugu State.

“Alhaji Abubakar Sambo has demonstrated unwavering dedication to building bridges among our people. His experience in leadership, community service, and security advisory roles makes him a valuable asset to our administration,” the governor said.

The role of Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties is expected to involve supporting high-level initiatives, coordinating special government projects, and advising on community engagement, especially in areas requiring sensitive inter-ethnic cooperation.

Community leaders, civil society organizations, and residents have welcomed the appointment as a progressive and symbolic gesture that underscores the state government’s respect for diversity and unity.

With this new role, Alhaji Sambo is expected to play an even more prominent part in shaping policies and programs that promote harmony, inclusive development, and proactive governance across Enugu State.
