Abia Postpones Inauguration of Key Projects Till June Due to Tinubu’s Tight Schedule

Abia State Government has rescheduled the planned inauguration of key infrastructure projects, including the 6.7-kilometer Port Harcourt Road in Aba and the Abia Medical City project, which were initially set to take place on May 23, 2025.
According to Prince Kanu, the Commissioner for Information, the event has been postponed to June due to President Bola Tinubu’s tight schedule.
Despite the postponement, Aba residents are set to celebrate the transformative projects undertaken by Governor Alex Otti in the city with a carnival on May 21. Kanu emphasized that the event is privately organized and not funded by the state government, demonstrating the people’s appreciation for the government’s efforts.
In related news, the state government has announced a series of activities to mark Governor Otti’s second anniversary in office, commencing on May 25 with an interdenominational service at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia. The celebrations will continue with an executive council meeting on May 26, a visit to orphanage homes by the First Lady on May 27, and an anniversary lecture delivered by former Finance Minister Kalu Idika Kalu on May 28.
On May 29, Governor Otti will deliver a state broadcast at the Umuahia Township Stadium, marking the grand finale of the anniversary celebrations. Additionally, on May 23, the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, will host the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who will launch an initiative to support vulnerable persons in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Professor Enouch Ogbonnaya Uche, revealed that the state government has completed the renovation of Primary Health Centres (PHC) under the “Project Ekwueme” initiative, with a commissioning ceremony scheduled to take place in each of the 17 Local Government Areas over a period of 17 days, starting from the first week of June.
Uche also provided updates on the Abia Medical City project, which is set to be flagged off in June, emphasizing its significance not only for Abians but for the entire country.
The project’s enormity has reportedly caught the attention of President Tinubu, who is keen to launch it personally. Meanwhile, construction work is underway on the access route to the medical city location, as directed by Governor Otti.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, were present during the interaction with journalists.
