Tinubu Approves Issuance of Licence for Kolmani Oil Development

In a major boost to Nigeria’s oil industry, President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the issuance of crucial licenses for the Kolmani Integrated Development Project, a massive oil exploration venture situated on the border of Bauchi and Gombe states.
This move is expected to significantly ramp up the country’s oil production by leveraging all available hydrocarbon platforms.
According to Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the presidential approvals are a key part of the government’s strategy to maximize the nation’s energy resources and drive economic growth.
By activating all available oil platforms, the administration aims to create jobs, stimulate industrial growth, and increase national revenue.
The Kolmani project, which was initially launched in November 2022, marks a significant milestone in the exploration of oil in Northern Nigeria.
The project is located in the Kolmani River II oil field, a border community between Bauchi and Gombe states, and is expected to bring numerous benefits to the region, including the creation of new jobs and the reopening of previously closed companies.
The government’s commitment to developing the oil and gas sector is further underscored by the establishment of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy, which is set to play a critical role in building local capacity and expertise in the industry.
The academy, which is being constructed in Alkaleri Local Government Area, will provide training and skills development opportunities for young Nigerians, enabling them to contribute to the growth and development of the sector.
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has welcomed the federal government’s support for the project, emphasizing the importance of the academy in driving economic growth and development in the region.
The governor noted that the institution will serve as a foundation for skill acquisition and innovation, benefiting not just Bauchi State but the entire nation.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has also announced plans to resume oil drilling in the Kolmani oil field, with the Group Chief Executive, Bayo Ojulari, stating that the project will bring numerous benefits to the region, including the creation of new jobs and the stimulation of economic growth.
The NNPC also plans to complete the gas pipeline from Ajaokuta to Kano, which is expected to further boost the region’s economy.
