Yaba College of Technology Receives Corporate Merit Award from ICAN

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has presented the Yaba College of Technology with a Corporate Merit Award at its 2025 Award and Dinner Night, held at the Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos State.
The award was received by the Rector of the college, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, from the ICAN Diamond President, Chief Davidson Alaribe.
The award is a recognition of the college’s excellence in producing quality accountants and chartered accountants in Nigeria.
Yaba College of Technology was singled out as the largest producer of accountants and chartered accountants in the country, and its products have consistently qualified as chartered accountants at undergraduate levels.
The college has a long history with ICAN, as it was the venue where the institute’s first professional examination was conducted.
The 60th President of ICAN, who is an alumnus of the college, presented the award to the Rector, saying: “My Rector, I am presenting this Award to you and at the same time receiving it being a product of the college.
The Award is to charge you to do more in the development of accounting and producing quality professionals.”
The Rector expressed his appreciation for the award and promised to do more in contributing to the development of the accounting profession in Nigeria and the community at large.
He stated that the college is humbled by the recognition and will continue to strive for excellence in accounting education.
The award ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including the first indigenous Rector of the college and first Registrar cum Chief Executive Officer of ICAN, Pa George Majekodunmi Okufi; His Royal Majesty, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara; and the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, who received an award on behalf of the State Governor.
Babcock University’s President and Vice Chancellor, Professor Ademola Tayo, was also presented with a distinguished service ICAN Merit Award.
