APC’s Alli Says He Has Toured All 33 Oyo Local Governments, Asks Voters for Mandate

Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, says he and his running mate have visited all 33 local government areas of the state and now understand the needs of each, as he appeals to voters for a mandate in the 2027 election.

In remarks shared on social media on Tuesday, Alli said residents would see the effectiveness of a working government if they gave him and his deputy the chance to govern. The remarks did not give details of the visits or what the needs he identified were.

Alli, who represents Oyo South in the Senate, was unveiled by the party as its candidate alongside running mate Adesoji Adedeji. The APC is seeking to return to power in the state after years in opposition, and has been pursuing a reconciliation drive to unite its members behind his candidacy.

Alli has already made a number of campaign pledges. He has promised full autonomy for the 33 local governments from May 29, 2027, with his administration not spending funds belonging to the councils. He has also promised a functional general hospital in every local government area, at least one fully equipped primary healthcare centre in each of the state’s 351 wards, and a thirteenth month salary for civil servants. His manifesto, titled Oyo AHEAD, was scheduled to be presented to stakeholders in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The race to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde, who is not eligible for another term, is expected to be crowded, with candidates from several parties in contention.
