Nigeria Immigration Service Confirms Officer Killed, Another Injured In Niger State Attack

The Nigeria Immigration Service has confirmed the death of one of its officers and serious injury to another following an attack by unidentified armed men in Niger State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at about 11:30 am, when officers attached to the Wawa Control Post were conducting a routine surveillance patrol along the Tunga Taya Woro axis of the state.

The deceased officer was Assistant Superintendent of Immigration I U Babangida, while the injured officer was Inspector A K Musa, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi.

Musa sustained serious injuries but managed to escape and is currently receiving medical attention.

The NIS said Babangida had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites, describing him as an officer whose sacrifice and commitment to duty would be honoured.

The Service expressed condolences to the deceased officer family, colleagues and loved ones, while wishing the injured personnel a speedy recovery and assuring both families of its continued support during the difficult period.

It also disclosed that it was working closely with the Niger State Government and relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack and ensure they are brought to justice.

The immigration service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria borders, insisting that the attack would not deter its personnel from carrying out their duties.
